Based in Hook, Hampshire, we offer plenty of boarding options as well as a day school. Explore our website or give us a call to discover what makes Sherfield special

An outstanding, all-round academic, active and creative school

From the moment your child enters our outstanding nursery, they will start to develop their social and learning skills within our warm and nurturing school environment.

As they progress through the Prep and Senior schools, the children start to develop rigorous academic skills and enjoy world-class sports, arts and music programmes. With our small class sizes and bespoke learning, we regularly achieve outstanding results in academic league tables. Sixth Formers are exceptionally well-prepared by our dedicated staff for further education and gain entry into some of the best colleges and universities in the world. Regular fieldwork, sports exchanges and cultural trips round out their development and this integrated education instils a lifelong love of learning and culture.

We immerse our pupils in school life from day one of their journey here. Sherfield School is always a hive of activity. Our gifted and talented student body includes many musicians, artists, county players in tennis and rugby plus national and international cycling, judo, equestrian and swimming stars. The school also plays host to many music and arts events throughout the school year, hosted in the oak panelled Liddell Room and our vibrant art gallery.

Alongside academic learning and sports, we tailor pastoral care to meet your child’s individual needs and aim to foster their unique talents and character, building confidence and respect.

And with our Grade ll listed manor house set in many acres of beautiful grounds, woods and gardens, plus a new, purpose-built playground, there are plenty of opportunities for all ages to get outside in the fresh country air.

Come and visit us to get a feel for our dynamic community and see how your child could benefit from The Sherfield Experience.

The Virtual Learner’s Day at Sherfield School – Senior School (Years 9-11)

At Sherfield School, the staff are working tirelessly to ensure that all pupils get best continuity of education possible. We have also worked hard to ensure that the school day is a close to ‘real life’ as possible.
Tutorials

Tutor time remains an integral part of the school day and all pupils ‘check-in’ with their tutor in the morning at 08.55. This not only ensures that pupils are up and ready for the day but also gives an opportunity for them to discuss any concerns they might have or difficulties accessing the technology. Tutors are also able to relay any notices about the school day at this time. Both tutorials and house meetings (see below) are an important aspect of ensuring that we continue to cater for our pupils’ well-being and that they have structured social contact with their peers.
Morning Motivation

At 09:05 pupils are able to drop in on our Morning Motivation sessions where they are able to follow fitness routines led by our PE staff. They can engage with this via Zoom or follow the videos which are uploaded to YouTube.
Academic Lessons

There are three 1hr and 30-minute lessons per day with breaks in between. Teachers continue to deliver the full curriculum for Years 9-11 with a clear emphasis on GCSE specifications for Years 10 and 11. We are currently discussing next steps for our Year 11 pupils, and next term presents us with an opportunity to begin to deliver A Level content given that no public exams will take place.

A typical lesson begins with teacher-led explanation on Zoom which lasts about 10-15 minutes. During that time, pupils can ask questions and seek clarification, should they need it, using group chat (publicly or privately) or over their microphones. Pupils then complete their class tasks in Google Classroom under the watchful eye of their teachers who are available to help and answer questions. Work is submitted and marked as it would be in school. Many teachers Zoom again before the end of the lesson to ensure that pupils are happy with the tasks and have understood expectations. Learning Support teachers are also available in virtual ‘break out rooms’ on Google Classroom for those who need a little extra help or assistance.

Attendance and behaviour in lessons is closely monitored by teachers, tutors and heads of phase and parents are kept fully in the loop should concerns arise. Teachers continue to use the rewards and sanctions system to keep track of engagement and to keep motivation levels high at this difficult time.
After School Sessions

Between 15:30 and 16:15 pupils can opt to complete their enrichment activities which will help them on their way to achieving their AVP award. There are also two sessions for those pupils studying GCSEs in Enrichment (Astronomy, Dance and Computer Science). Year 9 pupils also have the opportunity to get help and advice on their Accelerated Learner independent projects.
Overseas Boarders

The house team are liaising closely with our overseas boarders, and their guardians, to ensure that they are able to access as much of the available material as possible. EAL lessons are available every day and focus on preparation for IGCSE/IELTS exams.
House Meeting

On Thursday, all pupils attend a virtual house meeting (which they would normally do in school on this day). Last week’s house competition was to design a picture for the House Google classroom page and there will be further virtual challenges and competitions going forward.
